About the Author

This blog isn't about me. It's about you, and every other artist trying to "make it" in the professional field. But for the sake of transparency, let me tell you a bit about myself.

My name is Eliza Jane Moser and I'm a contemporary painter from Massachusetts. From the age of fourteen I studied traditional painting and drawing techniques in what is commonly called Classical Realism.
When I was nineteen years old I achieved a lifelong dream and moved to Florence, Italy to study art full-time at the Florence Academy of Art.

To make my move to Florence possible, I took the unorthodox approach of running a Kickstarter campaign, a popular crowdfunding platform. I had my doubts about attempting the fundraiser, and was shy about putting my story out there for all the world to see, but I buckled down and took the plunge.

To my surprise, the campaign was a success. I was overwhelmed with the generous response I got from friends, family and even complete strangers. Kickstarter was a crucial step in enabling my artistic education; without it, my life today would be very different.
The reason I bring all this up is because from this experience I learned two important lessons: One, other people are more generous and interested in your dreams and goals than you would believe, you merely need to be open about sharing your story. And lesson two: Success is possible; a lesson professed so often that it's become dangerously cliche.

I try to carry the lessons I learned through Kickstarter with me everyday as I approach all my artistic goals, personal and professional. Today I am a full-time professional artist based out of my hometown in Springfield, MA. I spend my time painting, teaching, hustling, researching, laughing, dancing, and always, learning.
